This
is a letter (poem) I wrote for my son on August 19, 1998 on his 21st
birthday

TO ALLEN
A tribute to my beloved son
Who, this birthday, would be twenty-one.
Except I'll celebrate it all alone, dear
I'll wish so hard that you could be here.
You're always close inside my heart
I guess, in some ways, we'll never part.
I wish that I could stop the pain
Or my tears that fall like rain.
Each time I speak of how I miss you
I think that you must miss me too.
What's it like in Heaven, I wonder?
Do you feel the rain or hear the thunder
Or is it always warm and sunny,
Soft and cuddly like your worn-out bunny?
I like to think that you are happy,
Running free and able to see
And do the things you never could,
While on this Earth you never would.
I have to think this way, you see
I can't think of you as gone from me,
Under the ground to fade away,
A place we put your body to lay,
A place where I can go and pray
And feel peace and love and joy
Where my heart fills with love for my boy.
Memories: some are happy, some are sad,
Some of good times, some of bad.
In my whole life, I'll never forget you
And I hope that you know your mommy loves you
And always will.
