THE CRADLE OF CANADIAN MINING AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO CANADA AND THE REST OF THE WORLD!

 By R.A. Gilson

Cobalt, Ontario Canada, discovered in 1903, would, from day one, have an impact on Canada and the Rest of the World! Today, Cobalt, Ontario is known as the most Historical Town in Ontario and, no doubt, Canada and the World! The riches of the famed silver Camp went on to provide Bay Street in Toronto, Ontario and Wall Street in New York, N.Y. with the wealth that has created two of the most powerful Nations in the world. And it didn't stop there!

Wealth from the Cobalt Camp went on to explore the goldfields of Kirkland Lake, Timmins, the uranium discoveries in Elliot Lake and the list snowballs into other avenues such as The Northern Miner, The Globe & Mail, The North Bay Nugget, The Temiskaming Speaker and more recently the on-line mining newsletter canadianminingnews.com

Some of the greatest and largest Companies operating today got their start in the Cobalt Camp including Banks, Hockey Franchises, Stock Exchanges and Mining Companies that have forgotten their past! The great Hollinger Empire also got its start in the Cobalt camp.

But, while Cobalt suffers in anguish, a new day is coming for the Cobalt Camp. It still has its high-grade silver-cobalt veins and potential for base metals. But, the old Camp may have found a new saviour and that being its Diamond Potential!

While the well-known DeBeers works on it's Victor Pipe in the James Bay Lowlands, another not as well known company, Cabo Mining Corp. (V.CEV -CDNX) of Vancouver, BC works with it's Joint Venture Partners, Outcrop Explorations Limited  and PrairieC on it's diamond potential at the other end of the trough-like, fault-like zone in the Lorrain Township, Cobalt, Ontario area. Also, 20 miles to the southwest, Tres-Or Resources Ltd. (V.TRS - CDNX) is working another diamond potential in the Temagami area and 20 miles south of Tres-Ore, Mustang Minerals Corporation (V.YMU -CDNX) and JML Resources  have reported diamond potential in the Marten River area. They may be on the same zone as DeBeers and Cabo.

Cabo has two Diamond Potentials, one in Lorrain Township, associated with lamprophyre (similar to the Wawa , Ont Camp) and the second in Gillies Limit NP, associated with kimberlite. PrairieC’s adjoining ground in Lorrain Township has already revealed 3 diamond chips! see newsstory  Kennecott discovered these three chip samples and DeBeers discovered 9 spinals from PrairieC’s soil samples.

Cabo Mining Corp. the little known Company from Vancouver, BC is now preparing a diamond drill program on its Diamond Potential in Lorrain Township. Hopes are high that Cabo could discover Cobalt’s first diamond mine by the year 2003 to celebrate Cobalt’s 100th year celebration.

This is the first part of an ongoing story of the historic Cobalt Camp. Stay tuned!
